5 out of 5 stars Nice 1911 practice pistol   March 12, 2007

This is a very nice 1911-style air pistol, manufactured by Umarex under license from Colt. The weight and balance is similar to its .45 centerfire cousins. Dimensions are sufficiently correct that it will fit in a Kydex holster for the 1911. In this regard, it's good for dry fire and presentation practice. The mechanism is essentially a miniature double-action revolver that spins an 8-shot removable magazine. Two magazines are supplied with the pistol; it's a good idea to get a few extra. (Crosman's pellet speedloader will load seven mags simultaneously.) The thumb safety and grip safety both work; the thumb safety on my specimen was rather sticky in the beginning, but a drop of gun oil fixed it. The trigger pull is rather light compared to the original. Although the pistol can be cocked and fired single-action, I prefer double-action because the trigger pull is a tad heavier that way. For short-range shooting, a CO2 cylinder will last for about 100 rounds at 65 degrees F. As with any air pistol, it's relatively quiet and the sound won't annoy the neighbors. Muzzle velocity (380-400 fps) provides acceptable accuracy, while keeping backstop requirements fairly simple. Much better quality construction than competing (mostly plastic!) products; it's built to last.

When I buy pellet pistols I want quality and performance. I'm willing to pay more because I'm getting more.
This pistol has a spot with my best handguns.
Accurate, smooth action, ease of use and just all around fun to shoot.
